My hand carved stone artworks represent the balance and spirit of Maine’s beautiful and abundant water and rocks on both its seacoast and land. There is a real rhythm and balance in the rocks and water found naturally in the fields, streams, woods and rugged shores of Maine. I search these wondrous areas for stones with special textures, colors and shapes and then play with various combinations until a set of stones works well and harmoniously together. I attempt to capture the special spirit of each stone by carving a vessel to embrace a contoured pool, which often reveals graceful and colorful molten flows or sedimentary striations. Some reveal a spirit within which I attempt to sculpt. The base, pedestal and pool stone are then worked together to create a visually delicately balanced birdbath, garden pool or fountain. The end result for me is a naturally beautiful, balanced, peaceful and practical sculptured artwork to be long enjoyed by the birds, critters and nature loving people. |
