Brian McKenna

Brian's inspiration comes from the simplicity of Shaker furniture which provides a peaceful contrast to today's complicated world.  Time tested joinery anchors a design that is based on simplicity, durability and  function.   The design has prospered over time.

Brian's interest in the furniture was a catalyst for studying the history of the Shakers and the simple lifestyle that  is reflected in their furniture.  Living in Maine provided an  advantage to research because the only active Shaker community is Sabathday Lake Shaker Village in Maine.  Brian has been able to tour the building and grounds many times and has involved himself in  woodworking courses that  are sometimes offered at the village.

Many of his pieces are made of cherry with a hand rubbed oil finish, but other woods (which the Shakers used) and finishes are available.  If you are interested in Shaker furniture you will find a conversation with Brian about the subject very interesting.
